Congenital Heart Defects
You've probably run across an abbreviation for a Congenital Heart Defect that you were unfamiliar with. This list is an attempt to gather in one place as many of the recognized CHDs as we can, with their abbreviations and a laymans explanation of what they are. This list was created by searching the internet for sites about CHDs and then simplifying and combining all the information into one page. This list was not created by a doctor, and is for informational purposes only.

For many parents, hearing the heartbeat of their unborn child becomes their first, loving bond to that child. It's no wonder, then, that discovering that their child has a heart defect, whether diagnosed in the womb, shortly after birth or during childhood, can be devastating. Mended Little Hearts, a support program for parents of children with heart defects and heart disease, is dedicated to inspiring hope in those who care for the littlest heart patients of all. Mended Little Hearts offers resources and a caring support network as families find answers and move forward to find healing and hope.

Along with explanations of the various tests, surgical procedures, and treatments for CHD's, this book also contains helpful diagrams, a glossary of medical terms, and much, much more. It's My Heart was developed over a number of years by a dedicated group of doctors, nurses and parents in a collaborative effort spearheaded by The Children's Heart Foundation.

Raising awareness is important because not only are most people unaware of CHD, the more awareness we raise, the more likely it is that people will give money to CHD research, which could improve the lives of our children and adults living with CHD. In addition, you never know when raising awareness could save a life. Go here for some helpful tips on how to raise awareness.

A Walk to Remember & Tree Memorial
Annual event taking place in October to lessen the isolation so often felt by parents who have lost a child. The event is brings families together who bring so much love and honor to their child’s memory.  “We walk for the steps they will never take.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities

Many families travel far from home to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children. Often, it can be a long time to be away from home, or to divide a family. The Ronald McDonald House program provides a “home-away-from-home” for families so they can stay close by their hospitalized child at little or no cost. Often steps away from a pediatric or intensive care unit, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms offer a place to rest and regroup close to their hospitalized child.

The Angel with the Golden Glow

The Angel with the Golden Glow is based on the true, heartfelt story about a special little boy & his family. Lessons of life & beyond are portrayed beautifully in this magical children's tale. Join the Angel with the Golden Glow on his journey of love, joy & courage. Discover with him the power we all have to warm the hearts of those we touch...

We purchased over 100 books called “The Angel with the Golden Glow” I have sent almost 20 out other families who have lost a child & the rest we are donating to U of MI hospital. What a sweet children’s book that we even find comforting to read. A heart family we know from email (littlehearts.org) sent it to us (thank you again Lois). It is just one of the many things we will do in the future in Severin’s memory. We will always be advocates of CHD awareness/research the #1 birth defect of babies!  - Amy Brenny
